Hello!
I am in the middle of building a PC. The PC has an AMD Phenom II
I was under the impression that all Phenom II processors where AM3.
Anyway, I did some research and came to the conclusion that my Phenom II 820 was an AM3 CPU
Here is the website I found my information( I also used other websites to verify)
AMD Phenom II X4 820 Deneb 2.8GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Processor HDX820WFK4FGI - Newegg.com
The Website says it is an AM3 CPU..
So i did some more research and i found out that i can place a AM3 CPU into an AM3+ Socket. I ordered an AM3+ Motherboard so i can upgraded my CPU later.(when i have cash of the flows)
My Motherboard arrived a week later(today) and i started taking out my CPU. After removing the CPU i seen the socket was an AM2:confused:
So then i took to the internet and found this website
AMD Phenom II X4 820 - HDX820WFK4FGI
Now i am confused. Is this CPU an AM3 or AM2. Can i still place it in my AM3+ Motherboard?
Thanks. Here is the Motherboard
M5A78L-M LX PLUS - Motherboards - ASUS
This is what I found, but I would LOVE a second opinion
