dv6552ea bricked bios

hi hoping someone may know how to help me. i ran the hp bios update prog from windows 7 on my dv6552ea without realizing i should have before upgrading from vista. now my laptop switches on with no picture (including plugging it in a monitor) the fan spins up, the hdd clicks in a reboot loop.

i have read that i can flash the bios from a usb floppy drive and have sent off for one. i have tried to flash it from a usb stick but both of mine are over 4 gig and i have read that i need a 1 gig or under. i have already downloaded wincrises and the lowest version of the bios my laptop runs on. i renamed it to BIOS.WPH and put that on my stick with MINIDOS.SYS and PHLASH16. when i do the pull the battery and power out, hold fn and b or windows key and b while switching on i get no beeps, the laptop switches on and then off. all instructions i find say hold until i hear a beep then let go so i know its started. hopefully this will be fixed with the floppy drive, as i have read this is the more successful way of flashing!!!

there is a site i found where i can buy the latest bios chip. i wonder if that will work it means a bit of soldering which im sure i could handle (eek). has anyone tried that on here before? only costs £14 ish for the chip so not too bad but will it work?

option 3 is replace the motherboard. easy for me as i work on laptops very often taking them to part, cleaning fans, replacing thermal paste with artic silver etc. this option costs me at least £65, im skint at the moment as im building my ultimate pc for at least the next 2 paydays :) (its gunna be a beast)

i have been reading about how to flash for so long now that i have baffled myself. is there anyone on here who has any advice for me?

any and all comments trying to help me would be appreciated

neil
