Not sure if it's my motherboard

I built my pc a few years ago, 3 or so. It has the core i7 920 processor, the EVGA x58 motherboard, 6gigs of DDR3 ram, and at the time the gtx 260 graphics card but I upgraded that this summer to the gtx 550 ti.

About 2 months ago my computer went down and I just quickly got a laptop to do school work on as I did not have the time to figure out what the problem was and replace parts.

My computer will boot up and in the normal process on the load screen it recognizes the processor, then the ram, then boots to another page and boots off of the hard drive and loads windows. That's what happened when it was working. Now it will turn on and boot to that load screen and recognize the processor chip, then it will pause for a while waiting not flashing up the recognizing of the ram, it will then boot to the next page after a minute or so and won't recognize the hard drive. I've tried all the different serial ata ports on the board with 2 different hard drives and 2 different sets of cables but it will not recognize the hard drives at all. When I put in my OS discs and attempt to reformat and reinstall windows it will not recognize the hard drives. My cd/dvd/bd drive still works though. I like to think that it's just as simple as the motherboard going bad.

Input and thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
