My friend's Presario s4500UK just refuses to boot. The power supply LED is lit steadily and all the fans power up but there is no output to the screen. No BIOS, POST or anything. I cannot hear any disc activity and the HDD light does not flutter as I would expect during boot-up. I've unplugged all drives and tried again but still have the dreaded black screen so I'm presuming it's not a power supply issue?
If I insert a CD, the drive appears to "read" it but it won't boot from it, but that may be because it's after the HDD in the boot order. Without the BIOS screens I can't tell. Neither will it boot from USB for the same reason. So I'm down to BIOS/Motherboard/Video card. Is there any quick and dirty way I can isolate anything or do I have to replace one or other to be sure? The motherboard is an A7N8X-LA but is the version WITHOUT onboard video
Or is there another possibility I haven't thought of? Any and all assistance most gratefully accepted.
