CPU at 57-58C!

Hello,

I's been a while since I visited here so sorry been busy, hospitalized, storm-drenched, whew :(

Anyway, I just had to resurrect another old pc unused here at home. An Asus P5L_VM_1394 board with a Pentium D 3ghz processor, 1 gb DDR2 ram. Pretty much bare. So I added a budget Palit GT520 1gb DDR3 video card and replaced the 1 gb ram with 2x 2gb DDR2 667 sticks. This will be for the little kids. Darn kids fighting over the notebooks and getting me irked always :(

Have successfully formatted with x32 (XP SP3 and Win7 --dual boot) in preparation for x64 bit. Have just finished installing the major software applications and AV/firewall for both partitions. I ran an old Everest 4.6 freeware I had and I noticed that the CPU temp was at 54-57 C (129-134F) and even went up to 60+C!!! I never encountered that much of a high temp before. Well I just googled it and some sites said that the normal temp should only be at 77-105F!

I am only using he standard cooling fan which came with the original cpu when my brother bought it from the store. He does not remember what temp was it when he was using it last year prior ditching it for a better one.

Now I had thrown some money on it already and is working fine to date..no BSOD's or freezing(YET!). I never expected this to happen really. If I had known I'd have bought a newer board with an on-board video and later on just add ram and video cards by next year. I do see some occasional "blinking" sort of when the monitor sleeps type of blink but it would go for just a second and come back again. When that happens I check the cpu temp which is at 55-56C random.

What can I do? Can adding more thermal paste between the cpu and the heat sink be sufficient or I will have to replace the standard fan or what...?

This is a first for me as I have used some AMD/Intel CPU's but never an overheating one...

Can you give me an eyeview as to:

a. What may be symptoms that the CPU is getting burned..some glaring symptoms or info...
b. What will this issue affect? GPU or hmmm....
c. What should I always check?

Thanks and as I finish this it's 57-58 C via SpeedFan 4.47!

Will wait for your help/advice :)

Thanks again!
