On a fairly old system that has worked for years I am now facing an overheating issue. The CPU temp is in excess of 105C and this eventually causes the system to shut down. I have checked the temp from both BIOS and using HW Monitor and gotten the same results.
I can make the computer run for "awhile" by opening the side and having a large desk fan blow directly inside. This allowed me to transfer important files off the system.
I have "dusted out" the system using canned air and reapplied thermal paste between the heat sink and the CPU, and it this hasn't helped even slightly.
Thoughts?
