Hello,
I recently upgraded a family members PC for them from an Intel Celeron Single core CPU configuration from about 2002. I had another PC that I obtained that had a working P4 515 Prescott CPU and working mobo. So I installed the new P4 and mobo onto their computer.
The original Compaq computer tower that the p4 came out of shipped with 2x256mb sticks of PC2 3200 DDR2 ram in it. Its a little low on the memory end and I installed win7 32bit on that PC. It does run ok with it, but still a bit low.
My question is this, would the P4 515 CPU be compatible with DDR PC3200 400mhz ram sticks, and would 2GBs of Single channel PC3200 memory be faster on the Win732bit system than 512MB of DDR2 PC2 3200 ram.
I googled this a bit and found documentation and benchmarks for the P4 cpu, but I couldn't find anything about what types of ram are compatible, as I have no documentation I was hoping an expert here could help me out.
Thanks a lot.
