I run ubuntu server on an old tower, serving up media to various devices around my house, had a power outage last night, went to boot it this morning and it won't boot. It is totally unresponsive when you press the power button. I opened up the case and found that a heat sink had fallen off the northbridge,(see attachment) based on this spec layout. It has been quite hot the past few days, and i noticed the fan had been running high. I'm wondering if having this chip overheat and fry would cause the computer to not turn on at all, or would i still get the BIOS? Or is the power outage more likely to have fried something? The computer is plugged into a surge protector, although it just a cheap one i picked up at the hardware store.
