I have been using a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 (Rev 1.1) motherboard for the past three years. I have 16GB of RAM. (4x4GB sticks of Crucial Ballistix 1866) Recently, my desktop was freezing when I booted, so I flashed the BIOS to the newest version on Gigabyte's site. The only version newer than mine was the beta version, so I took that, which would be F8f. It stopped the freezing problem, but then I noticed my RAM speeds were set way low. I clocked the RAM back to 1866MHz from 1333MHz. I then got a message when I attempted to boot that the computer was unable to due to overclocking. So, I noticed the timings were not set correctly either, and manually set them to 9-9-9-27 as intended. The computer would not post after that, giving me one long, one short beep for "memory/motherboard error". I can now only use my RAM at 1333MHz with the wrong timing, when I have been running it at 1866MHz with 9-9-9-27 timing for years. What gives? Should I downgrade the BIOS?
