We tried swapping the RAM, CMOS battery, cpu, power supply, and video card with old spare parts. The motherboard was clearly dead.
Backstory: I bought a sandisk SSD on 4/9/2014. I had no real problems with the installation process. I came home the other night and noticed that my computer wouldn't post. My monitor wouldn't even display any video. We ended up finding the broken sata cable(see picture). I decided to contact Sandisk about it.
Sandisk gave me a pretty quick response:
Sounds good. I shipped the wire and SSD to them on 9/30/2014. UPS shows that they recieved it this morning. Sandisk quickly called me up. This is a summed up version of their response:
Is this correct? I think the wire does look slightly charred. I imagine that the short would also damage any area that the fallen wire makes contact with. The portion plugged into the motherboard was fine. The end that was plugged into the SSD snapped. Could the damage really be a coincidence?

"We apologize for inconvenience caused to you, and we understand your concerned as your computer not powering on . We will go ahead and pull the SSD for Failure analysis" |

The SSD is still functional. The wire is clearly broken. However, it doesn't look charred. This wire couldn't have shorted the board. I could maybe understand if it was a power cable. If anything, any damage would only be limited to the southbridge. You shouldn't be experiencing a loss of video. Your motherboard is just old. We can send the wire for further failure analysis. You will probably receive the same response in 6-8 weeks. |
