Hi, ok I am not sure where to put this question but at the root I need to ask if my MoBo has something so I will start here. Please move to an appropriate forum if I am too far off.
Build:
Intel Core i5 4430 @ 3.00GHz Haswell 22n Technology
465GB ATA ST500DM002-1BD14 SCSI Disk Device (SATA)
1024MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 6870
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. B85M-E (SOCKET 1150)
8.00GB Dual-channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
Coolermaster 700W PSU
I have some older Logitech Z506 5.1 Surround sound speaker set. They were a huge improvement over my 20 dollar speakers.
I am playing Lord of the Rings (the movies) on my system and notice that I have to adjust my audio manager to Quadraphonic, I do not hear all voices, including the main speaking actor in any scene, only from a long distance, as if it's an echo. The sound manager show 4 speakers, shows all when in 5.1 sound but I do not hear the voice, I do hear music in the subwoofer, the front center, front left and right, rear left and right, just no voice
So I began looking at my MoBo, the Asus B85M-E and I do have an AMD HDMI Output working correctly (per device manager) but showing as not plugged in.
I have checked BIOS and cannot find any ability to fiddle with Audio settings, no options anywhere, they do not exist.
I have updated all audio drivers available from asus
So a couple of questions:
Do I need this to be plugged in for these speakers to work in 5.1 sound?
If not, do I need to buy a 5.1 sound card?
Also I still have a couple of older speakers but there is not additional green plugin for them to be plugged into, I did plug them into the other rear out speaker jack, colored blue (on the computer itself)
Man I hope this doesn't sound stupid, I know I am writing a lot of run ons...
So, any insights are greatly appreciated.
