XFX Nforce 680i SLI and Windows 8 SSD Compatibility

I have a kingston 240 gb SSD that I just installed with Windows 8.1 that I purchased to update my computer. The oldest part in the computer now is the XFX 680i SLI Motherboard (About 7 years old now I think). I have read, and explored myself, and found that this motherboard doesn't have AHCI mode.

So, on to the problem....

I seemed to get everything installed and running ok... for a short time. However my computer keeps hanging up. Total freezes to blue screen happen occasionally, and some DPC_Watchdog errors... but most of the time the computer just hangs for 30 seconds to a minute or more and then finally clears up. I have run virus scans, and I'm fairly sure there is nothing infected on the drive. I thought some windows files might be corrupted and I have refreshed the pc, which uninstalled pretty much all the apps and programs.

These freezes occur when using different programs, at different times, and several times the computer will freeze up just at the selection screen for Windows 8.1 or an older operating system. (Windows 7 on another HD).

I have spoken with Kingston tech support about the drive, and it has the most current firmware since it was just purchased recently and Windows does recognize the device, and the "storahci" start parameter is set to 0 in windows.

So is there anything I can do to solve or diagnose this hanging issue? Or is this motherboard just always going to have compatibility issues with SSDs?

Edit: And I have just thought it was a hard drive compatibility issue since I could not find anything else, but it could be something else. If anyone has any other recommendations or things to check.
