Can my motherboard handle this PSU?

I recently got a new PC off craigslist as my HP wouldn't boot at all, and I couldn't seem to figure it out. It's a generic gaming case (High vent case) The video card isn't even PCI-E. I tried one game on it and it looked like it had negative colors. I need to know if my PSU I bought for my HP will work with this motherboard, or if it'll burn it out. The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L. My PSU I want to put in is a XFX TS550. 550W. This PC currently has a 380W. This will only be a tempoary solution, Because I want to save up, buy a new motherboard, CPU, RAM, Windows 8, build it up for gaming, but use the same case. (I apoligize if anything is mis-spelled, or if I left anything out. This is the second time I had to type this as Ubuntu decided it didn't wanna work, and any key I pressed zoomed in. Had to reboot.
