I've been fighting this issue for 6 months. I was getting 2 to 5 BSOD a day at seemingly random times. Most mornings, I would find the login screen and a 50/50 chance of the backup being good.
I would also get BSOD from trying to start Starnet which uses a parallel port dongle. That's a program that has run fine on my 64 bit system for years.
I can also get BSOD from trying to start the Data Collector link in AutoCAD Civil 3D V2016.
I've replaced the memory, video adapter, PCI parallel port and swapped out the keyboard and mouse.
The random crashes ended on December 8. I still get them every time I try to use Starnet or DC Link in AutoCAD.
I've tried to replace drivers but I only get a message that says something like "Windows has determined that you're already using the best driver."
Windows 7 pro.
Asus P8Z77-VLK board.
CORE i7 Intel
32GB HyperX Memory
I ordered a new motherboard (ASRock Z77 Extreme 4) as it seemed like the most similar that's available and has good reviews. I haven't installed it yet. Maybe that's the next step. I was hoping for some advice before going to that extreme.
It seems to me that this may still be a driver issue but I don't know how to "force" install a driver.
Any suggestions?
