System:
Board Asus M4A78 EM
CPU Phenom II 960T
Graphics Sapphire HD6450 / IGX AMD HD3200
8GB Kingston DDR2
HTPC Case low profile
Win7 62bit
I "upgraded" my PC with the above used parts and now I experience some very strange issues that I would think are caused by the board, but I can't nail it down. And still have some doubt...
Issues:
crashes: System crashes with black screen and / or reboots on multiple accasions. sometimes just after a period of time. once while copying fotos from a camera, after that when accessing the folder with the broken picture files also during windows file system check. This was the only reproducable occasion, it disappeared after deleting the broken files.
Sytem freezing: always on starting a 3D game.
black screen on boot: meaning the system seems to boot but display remains black. this happens after each crash, after installing drivers that require reboot (VGA, Chipset...) and just occasionally after restart... it seems to help sometimes when I switch between dvi and hdmi cable. having the display back, the system boots and runs until it crashes again...
History: I installed the above stuff - except graphic card - into the case and did a fresh install of win7 to my old hdd. i left the case open while doing that. after installing system and drivers, I ran the windows performance test, noticing fan noise and the case getting quite hot. so I installed speedfan and monitored temperatures while continuing. CPU temp went up to 70°C during performance test. all other temps were way below. I modified the fan setup until I got idle temp of 45 and 55 during performance test. Once I got there I started using the pc and got the first crash during copying fotos to hdd - as said above. after that i got a series of crashes with black screen but some significant display errors shortly before. Thats with the onboard graphics. So I assumed some heat issue with internal gaphics. After installing the graphics card however the crashes continue as described above. As all the monitored temps are ok now - including graphics card - I don't believe in a temp issue any longer.
what could it be?
