Hi Everyone,
Last year I had a custom computer built with a Gigabyte GA-X99-UD4P motherboard and an i7 Processor. The computer never worked, and became a point of contention between the supplier (who I no longer use) and my employer. I used all the parts from the computer build, with the exception of the motherboard and RAM.
Because I don't like to leave hardware 'lying around' (e.g.: healthy RAM), I made the decision to purchase an entry level 2011-3 socket set processor, in the form of a Xeon E5-1620 v3. I then used this processor, the existing RAM, and a paper clip to 'breath life' into the Gigabyte motherboard by shorting the primary BIOS chip. After reflashing the BIOS - the backup was in Russian - I had a functioning Gigabyte board on my hands! My sense of accomplishment was soaring so I ran some tests on the board using MemTest and everything seemed fine.
Finally I bought extra parts and built myself a nice computer, using the restored Gigabyte motherboard. However lo and behold once I completed the build and hit the power button I was met with a system that reboots every 5 seconds. Somewhere in between restoring the motherboard and building the system the motherboard decided to bite the bullet (and is now truly unrecoverable!).
Because my work place has already spent considerable money on this new system that I am building I am loathe to inform my colleague that the motherboard is now junk. For this reason I really need to purchase a bullet proof motherboard suited to my Xeon processor. I will not be going near Gigabyte with a 'ten foot pole', so would like some suggestions on a good quality motherboard (by another manufacturer) that will not break the bank. This new motherboard does not need to have all the bells and whistles of the original Gigabyte dud (e.g.: 4 x Crossfire / SLI), and shouldn't cost the world.
Any suggestions regarding a reliable, good quality, trouble free, motherboard will be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Davo
