I am trying to upgrade a machine.
The spec is:
Motherboard: Foxconn 946GZ7MA-1.1-8KRSH
Current cpu: e2160
Bios: 642F1P44 (this is the latest from Foxconn site)
I bought a Core 2 Extreme QX6850 (off ebay) It was delivered in an Intel chip carrier.
On power up the fans spin but nothing else happens. The chip dosen't even seem to get warm.
The Foxconn site states that this board supports Core 2 Extreme but does not specify part numbers, confusingly the user guide lists several cpus but does not mention the Core 2 Extreme but refers you back to their website for more info.
I believe there are 3 versions QX6700, QX6800 & QX6850
The Intel comparison chart seems to suggest that the only difference between them is clock speed.
Have I bought a duff chip or the wrong one? How can I get the chip tested?
Any ideas, anyone?
