Hey everyone!
I purchased an ASUS Sabertooth X79 a few months ago along with a 3930k and so on. I then sent the board back a couple of months later as everything I tried to do on it, wouldn't work :banghead:. I replaced it with a Gigabyte X79s-UP5 as it looked flawless.
Now, this board seems to not like using RAID on all the SATA ports, which is something I need. Also, it has some OC throttling issues, but that doesn't bother me too much. Another problem, is that it only has 3 16x PCIe slots which is all I need, but it leaves me no room for expansion with either a RAID card or Sound card etc. Also, I have some issues with both crossfire and eyefinity, but that's most likely GPU related, and not an issue with the motherboard.
Anyways, I'm VERY tempted to send this motherboard back as well and to replace it with something more flexible. I have seen the X79-UP4 and it looks quite good, though I don't know if the Marvell ports are any good, also, the PCIe is only PCIe 2.0 instead of 3.0 which may not be much of a problem now, but 2-3 years down the line, I might be struggling.
MAIN QUESTION: What motherboards are there out there that can:
- Support at least 10 SATA devices
- All SATA ports capable of using RAID simultaneously
- At least 3 PCIe 16x slots which are 2 apart, (preferably 4 slots).
- Can OC a 3930k to 4.4GHz with no problems.
- Will perform as fast as it can and not be bottom of the pile for performance
- Has a decent IO with a lot of USBs and Intel Gigabit LAN
- Unnecessary, but I'd like to try out a sound card too, so if there are any that fit all above that have a sound card onboard, I'd love to maybe try that one!
Thanks
John
