I would like to know if I can upgrade my Dell Dimension 4600 to a different motherboa

I have an old Dell Dimension 4600 with a 3.00 Ghz Pentium 4 in it right now at the moment, which is not all that fast. And there is also an old socket 478 motherboard in there as well. And I was just wondering if I can buy a newer motherboard that will fit inside my Dimension 4600 case, that would either be dual-core, or quad-core, if this is possible. Because I usually play a lot of PC games all the time, and I am really into gaming.

But most of the time, the games usually lag a lot. So I was just wondering if I can upgrade and buy a newer motherboard. For example, can I buy a Gigabyte motherboard, or an AsRock board? Will those motherboards fit in my computer though? Because I have seen online that someone rebuilt this computer, with a Gigabyte board, a newer Cpu (I think it was either dual-core or quad-core) and there was a newer power supply and different type of ram sticks. But in order to buy all of this stuff, this is going to cost a lot of money to save.

But actually, I have some leftover gift card money from Amazon to use. Can I use my leftover Amazon gift card money? But I do not think I have enough money in my gift card balance. But anyway, you get the picture. Well anyway, so please give me some advice on what I should do here. And also, please get back to me as soon as you can, and just give me a heads up on what I should I do. Because I have bought this computer back in 2004, and it is litterly 9 years old, but works not so speedy. So any kind of help would be appreciated. So get back to me soon when you get a chance. So thank you very much!
