Dont take CD out when rebooting

Impatience rules. Had been viewing photos on a DVD, but had to shut down for dinner. On starting up again and into the boot sequence the button to eject the photo DVD was pressed.
Oh dear now every time the computer tries to go through a normal start up it fails with a message insert media disc. Re-inserting the DVD that was removed makes no difference.
Pressing F8 on initial start up allows selection to boot from Hard Drive, which it does without problem.
The DVD is a Lite-On SHM 165P6S that got fouled up. The system has another CD drive and three hard drives and runs on an Intel (R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 2.67Ghz 64 bit OS.
What is the procedure to re-instate the previous boot sequence. System restore did not work.
