I have a Gateway FX P-7807u laptop. My regular laptop battery has not worked in some time, so I just use AC power. The problem is that the computer is losing the date and time. My laptop keeps the time perfectly as long as the AC power is plugged in. If I unplug the AC power, the computer then resets to the same date and time, which is the date and time it was manufactured in 2008. I was positive it was the CMOS/BIOS battery, so I ordered a replacement and installed it, but it did not fix the problem! I realize there is always a chance the new battery is bad, but the shipping receipt said it had been tested.
I had to open the laptop and look at the current CMOS/BIOS battery to find out what part to order. The battery is the same exact part number as the original and looks identical, and although on the ad I bought it from it was listed for a different brand and model of computer, it should still work in mine. It is part number 23.22047.00 and its a 3V battery just like the original and has a 3 pin plug and two wires, one black and one red, just like the original. The 3 pin plug is keyed, so it can only be plugged in one way, plus I took a picture of the original and made sure the correct color wire was facing the correct direction. Given all of that, Im positive I have installed it correctly and it is firmly plugged in as I have unplugged it and plugged it back in several times to no effect.
The only other thing of mention is that the AC jack has been very slightly loose since I bought it years ago, and when the computer started losing the date and time, it also starting turning on automatically when I plugged the AC power in. So I plug in the AC power and the laptop comes on even though I have not hit the power button. I am mentioning this just in case it may be related in some way. I am planning to replace the board with the AC jack on it soon.
On a separate issue, my laptop screen went dark, I can still see what is on the screen if I use a flashlight, so I ordered the LCD inverter and the LCD backlight bulb to replace them myself. I don't know how that would be related to this other problem but I at least wanted to mention it.
I dont know what to try at this point or what else the problem could be. Please help!
Thank you!
