Hey guys I'm super new to PC upgrades and I've been running into a power surge problem since i upgraded my motherboard and CPU to an Asus Z97-A and an I7-4790k respectively.
Since installing the new components my machine appears to run fine while idle but once i start gaming after about 45min to an hour the computer restarts and comes back on with an error message
"Anti-surge protection was triggered, system was shut down to protect from unstable power supply"
As I understand it the Asus Z97-A has some kind of built in surge protection and this is whats causing the machine to shut down however in the BIOS this can be disabled.
My question is should I just replace my PSU (a bit of a daunting task for a newbie) or is it safe to try shutting off this anti surge protection as has Ive seen suggested for folks with a similar problem. The reason I ask, is that I never experienced anything like this with my old Motherboard (however it didnt have this anti surge feature) and never had any problems with the PSU.
