Hi,
I have an early Aspire One with the 8G SSD. Dreadfully slow when I first bought it - took about 5 minutes for just XP to load. Changed to UBUNTU and it's more like 40 seconds before you can start browsing.
I found a page that showed how to upgrade the SSD to a CF card.
jkkmobile: How to update Acer Aspire One's SSD
Done that, without any cutting, and now trying to reinstall UBUNTU. There was an issue with the CF card not being recognised because the ZIF cable was not being held firmly enough on the motherboard socket. I think I've fixed that but it's still not finding it. UBUNTU runs fine from USB DVD but when I try to install it says I have only 0.5G of HDD space, which I presume is some of the memory. I made sure it wasn't write-locked before I closed it all up but didn't format it, as i seem to remember that the UBUNTU install does that for you if needed.
Before I start dismantling again, can I just ask if anyone knows whether the Aspire BIOS will recognise a 32G card? You will note that the link above only used the same sized card as the SSD it replaced. I found a 4x bigger card for coppers more so went with that. Maybe that was a mistake.
If not, I'm looking at testing the CF/ZIF adaptor somehow. Could even be a duff card, I suppose. Any help will be much appreciated.
