Laptop freezes randomly, hardware issue

I have a Samsung R580 laptop dual booting Ubuntu 14.04 and Windows 7, not sure of service pach, I rarely use it.

My laptop has started to freeze at random times, from a few seconds to a few minutes after boot. Windows tries to boot but freezes during the loading splash screen. In Linux, it'll boot up but when it freezes the screen goes a solid gray or blue color, the mouse cursor disappears and all disk IO stops. At least that's what I've been able to see. I manages to get a shell only once in Linux and it flashed a bunch of MMIO errors before it fully went down. I can't find any good info on those types of errors.

I've tried both the OS's on my hard drive as well as several different Linux distros via USB. All same results.

Ironically, it doesn't crash during memtest and has passed several rounds. I'm assuming at this point that it's a hardware issue. I've ruled out the memory, but at this point I'm not sure if the issue is with something on the motherboard or the CPU.

What steps can I take to figure out which it is? I strongly believe it's the mobo but I need to be sure before I plunk down the cash for a replacement. Any suggestions?

BTW by freeze I mean crash. It's can't be recovered and I have to turn the laptop off with the power switch.
