atrocious Skyrim FPS- whats the deal ?

$

So I just bought Skyrim with all its DLC's n ****. The game automatically detected that "ultra high" settings would be the best. However, when I run the game, I'm experiencing MASSIVE fps drops. At first it runs smoother than a baby's bum - steady 60FPS, but after a while at completely random times the FPS can drop to 6 and stay at 2-6 for 30 or so seconds. Sometimes it also jumps right back to 60 again. Most of the time it lands at around 25-20. What's the reason it does this ? I have been getting these FPS drops in a few other games as well so I think there might be something going wrong here. My processor isn't overheating or anything and it seems to be all-round fine. The ridiculous thing is that I downloaded "coretemp" to make sure it's not an overheat issue (which I have had before) and the program says both cores are minimum temperature (50-70 celsius to maxtemp) and the load is 20-35% on both. yet at the same time the game is running at 6FPS. How can it be possible ? I have all the latest drivers.

Here's my specs

Motherboard issue?

Hi Tech Support - is this a motherboard issue?

Over the past few months, my PC would occasionally crash while playing games (SC2 for example). During these crashes, both of my screens would become blurred/pixelated/what have you and my speakers would make a short, repeating sound. This would continue until I force shut the PC off. After about a month of this, these crashes started happening out of game; browsing the internet (youtube, etc).

After looking into possible causes for this problem, I thought it might be a faulty video card. I tried dusting it off, but the crashes continued. I then tried resetting the card; still crashes. I then thought I would try no video card and run on-board graphics. When the card was out, I found it to be really dusty on the bottom still. Tried dusting it again and put it back.. now screens never turned on. I tried swapping to a different express slot; screens still not turning on.

I've finally tried removing the card altogether; screens still don't turn on when I boot. I'm also noticing that my usb mouse and keyboard don't light up either which is why I'm starting to think it might be a mobo issue?

Also.. yesterday while it was still working, I got a BSOD with REGISTRY_ERROR while internet browsing. This is the only time this error came up. I read some forums and they recommended CCleaner, which I used to clean the registry. It worked for a while after that, but then the crashes continued.

Any insight on this matter is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance,

Kumas

Asus P8P67 Pro Rev 3.1 DRAM Light

Hey guys,

I was playing some Diablo 3 with my friends last night when my computer shut down suddenly. I hit the power button out of reflex but nothing appeared on screen and after a couple of seconds I could smell Ozone so I held the power button until it shutdown then cracked the case open to see what I could see.

Nothing looked out of order but there was a definite smell of ozone which I haven't encountered before, after some basic Google searching I determined that it was most likely a PSU failure and I shouldn't try further troubleshooting until I had a new one.

I went out this morning and picked up a PSU from Bestbuy just to try and get a handle on what's going on with my system.

After installing the new PSU my system still isn't booting and the details are as follows.

Fans (Case fans, GPU, PSU & CPU) start when I hit the power button but after 2-3 seconds the CPU light on my motherboard flashes and everything goes off, then the fans start again and case lights ect. come on. This is when the DRAM LED light near the top of my motherboard comes on and stays illuminated, at no point does the computer move to post or bios. My motherboard manual states that this light indicates that the DIMMs are imcompatible or not working properly. I have 4 sticks of ram and have tested them all in the first slot with the MemOK! switch to no avail, the light has stayed on after testing each stick of RAM.

I could use some guidance moving forward at this point because I've never gone down this particular rabbit hole in troubleshooting.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello folks,

After roughly two years my CPU (AMD FX8120 3.01 Ghz Octacore) suddenly started to overheat when playing games, or anything CPU intense.
I can't figure out what the problem is, I have already cleaned my CPU and heatsink, and replaced the coolant paste.
I'm still using the stock cooler, I'm considering upgrading it to a Corsair H75.

My current PC setup:

Motherboard:
MSi 970A-G46
CPU
AMD FX8120 3.01 Ghz Octacore
Graphics Card:
ATI HD4870 1GB
RAM:
8GB of Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz
PSU:
OCZ ModXstream-pro 600W Modular

If there's more you want to more, just ask, I'll post it.

I hope anyone will be able to help me out :)

Failed Bios Update

Hello All, I attempted a bios update on my new build. Something didn't work (or more likely, I did something wrong). I downloaded the zip from msi's site, unzipped and ran the exe file. Then rebooted with the USB key. Mobo beeped 2x, light on USB key flashed for about 30 SEC's then nothing. Have tried rebooting again with and without the key. Nothing. What may I have done wrong, and more importantly, how can I correct it?

Can't get into computer, big issue

Hello, I'm going to include a lot of information in the problem I've encountered, telling the story of what has happened and what I've done, so bear with me.... I've been having an issue for a while now, a few months ago my HP computer randomly turned off, and when I turned it back on it would boot a screen that said "launch windows startup repair or start windows normally" when I would hit one of the arrow keys, it would be locked in switching between the options very quickly, so I couldn't choose anything. It would always highlight "launch windows repair" first so that would be my only option. Windows would start doing the repair, and half way through my Dell in1910n would go black and say "entering power save mode" and would be stuck in power save mode, that's my main problem. Sometimes when I boot my computer it wouldn't bring me to the start up repair screen, it would load normally, and I would be able to get onto the computer just fine, but once I got onto a high intensive game, the computer would shut off. And throughout the weeks it would shut off more and more frequently, a week ago my computer turned off and I can't even get past boot up screen before my monitor goes black and says "entering power save mode" sometimes I would be able to get further than boot screen, but on average it goes into power save mode within 3 minutes, I've previously set power save mode to never, but it still does it, and gets stuck in power save mode. I ran an HP diagnostic, and it told me my hard drive had an error, it was BIOHD-8, I read about it and it was apparently a motherboard, and a hard drive issue for HP computers, so I got a new case, motherboard, and hard drive, put it in yesterday and, I still have the same problem, the only thing that was fixed was the arrow keys don't get locked going up and down forever anymore. But I still can't get past the boot screen before it goes into sleep mode..I've tried both of my hard drives, old and new tried plugging in my TV through a VGA port, and when I tried my TV it boots up, and then goes black and says lost signal. Still having the same issue...and one thing I left out that might be the problem, my processor was overheating a few months ago, and hit 104 Celsius at max I put new thermal compound in and it went back down to 40 celsius. Is it my processor failing maybe? Or do I need a new graphics card? The only parts I haven't replaced are my optical drive, graphics card, ram, power supply, and processor. one of those 5 has got to be the problem..sorry about the length, I just wanted to be detailed, this has been stressing me out, if someone could tell me what's wrong it would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Operating system: Windows 7

GA-F2A55M-HD2 Memory Issues

Hey everyone,

I've built computers for the past 6 years and haven't ever run into any major issues, except for this.. The motherboard listed in the title (GA-F2A55M-HD2) was purchased for a customer. I purchased an 8gb crucial memory kit (2x4gb) with the model number of: CT251272BB1067Q I double checked and confirmed the memory standard is correct. That's usually the only thing I have to check, but anyway my problem is that the computer won't POST, it actually seems like it surges when I have only the memory and processor installed. the fan on the processor cycles back and forth and the leds on the fans blink off and on every 4 seconds. Does anyone suspect the memory is the issue?? ALSO if I leave 12v out it doesn't surge and of course still no POST but when I plug it back in is when it surges. Thank you. :D:banghead:

New machine won't install OS

I have the following (brand new):

GIGABYTE BRIX GB-BXi7-4770R
WD Blue WD10JPVX 1TB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Hard Drive
G.SKILL 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 RAM

Machine does not have an optical drive, so I created .iso from Windows 7 OS installation dvd. Next I used Windows 7 usb/dvd burner, which supposedly made the usb drive bootable with the iso.

Machine did not boot from two different usb sticks and an external HD like this.

I ran cmd as administrator and did DISKPART and BOOTSECT.EXE to make a bootable usb another way. Machine went straight into BIOS. Tried F12. It recognized the usb stick, but went into BIOS still.

I connected the machine to a dvd drive via a SATA to USB adaptor. The dvd "loads files" but then freezes on the windows logo page that says "Starting Windows." It freezes like that for well over a half hour.

I connected the HD to another machine with a dvd drive. Windows 7 installs, but because of the other machine's USB port issues, it doesn't get past the "Choose Language" menu. I put the HD back with the Gigabyte Brix Pro, hoping it would reload to the Language menu. Nope, straight into BIOS.

Changed BIOS from ACHI to IDE... changed it back...

At my wit's end. Anyone have any suggestions or see any flaws? Thanks

Flashing Bios Failed, PC non responsive

I have an Emachines T4155 with XP Home edition which I was attempting to upgrade the flash bios to support 1 GB Ram.
During the upgrade I was unable to complete the flash with F1 because my USB keyboard was not recognized.
Now it won't even display the bios menu with an F2 on boot or access the floppy, CD or HD.
I switched back to the old keyboard but unable to force a floppy boot.
Am I just SOL, or is there a key combination that will force access of the floppy to reflash the bios?

Dell XPS 720 Turns off immediately after being turned on

Hey, basically, came to turn on my computer this weekend after having not used it for a few days and for some reason when I switch it on, it will power up for a second or too, then just switch off again straight after. All the lights will come on, the fan starts up, and the power cable is working (I've tried it on another machine and it also works with a PS3). I've also tried just having the power cable in with the monitor and keyboard etc removed and that makes no difference. The computer was working perfectly before I left it for those few days and I hadn't changed any software or hardware.

Just wondering if anyone had any input, thanks!

Random freezes and more CPU/PSU

Hi, I'm new here and i need some help with the following issue:

My new homebuilt computer has been having all these random problems: freezes / black screens with no signal / freezes black screen / freeze + black screen + nVidia driver recovered message / freeze + random colors shifting in the second monitor / blue screen DPC Watchdog violation (stuck at 0% complete)...

All this happens randomly, it can work just fine for a couple of days and then crash four times the same day. This has happened in every kind of situation: gaming / watching youtube videos / idling / chating on skype / chating on steam / attempting to install windows 7 from USB / while restarting computer/ while copying a music cd...
If audio is playing it won't loop as other people have experienced

I have tried the following:
-Reinstalling and updating drivers
-Installing windows 7
-Installing Ubuntu 12.04
-Updating bios
-Using new HDD
-Using different ram and switching the slots
-Using onboard gpu
-Replacing the motherboard
-Trying the psu in another computer for a couple of days

MY PC:
i5 4670k 3,4GHz
Gigabyte GTX 780 Ti Windforce
Msi z87-gd65 Gaming
8GB 1866 Kingston HyperX Beast
Corsair RM650
WD Green 500gb
Seagate barracuda 1Tb

With that information can i think that the CPU is bad? Will replacing the cpu fix the problems?

Thank you very much in advance
