[SOLVED] socket 462 and socket" A+": interchangeable?

I have a AMD Athlon X 2400 dual core processor that I would like to save from a dead board that had a AMD A2+ socket. The new board(used) would be almost a copy of all the same features as far as memory, agp slot, etc.The only difference is that the new board's socket is a 462. I have read that there is a range of older AMD processors that can work in both sockets.
Can you tell me if this is true or not? The computer in question has two large hard drives and two R/W DVD drives and an agp slot with an ati 1gb card. So I am thinking of just switching out the mother board to save this XP machine.
What do you think of this idea? I would hate to trash it and then find out later that Microsoft wasn't serious about not supporting XP in the future. The used board I want to buy for this is at auction until 19 hours from now, so a timely
response will be greatly appreciated.

Dear Tech Support Forum team,

The computer I am working with is a project computer. I acquired it through a friend who’s son had been using it as a gaming system. When received, it was a case with power supply and motherboard. I connected a DVD drive to the single IDE port and was able to boot the system w/ Linux from a live .iso image.
However, it has been one year and I tried recently to revive the system and can’t obtain any output to a monitor. I’ve tried two different video cards on two different slots (PCIe x 16 and a standard PCI). No response from monitor (power button on monitor remains amber – turns green when unplugged from video card.

I suspected the power supply so I’ve tried two other working power supplies with the same result. All power supplies start the case fan and CPU fan spinning. Looking at the front of the case, the DVD drive light blinks as well as the HD activity light. I’ve attempted opening the DVD tray and it is also unresponsive.

At the moment, I have removed the RAM modules as well as the video card. There are no beep codes from the computer complaining of the absent hardware.

The following are some basic information about the system:
MOBO -- ASUS M3A78
CPU --- AMD Dual-Core
PSU --- Tubolink LC – A420ATX (420 watt)
HDD --- Seagate Barracuda drive (SATA)
DVD --- Samsung (read only IDE interface)

Not sure where to go from here or if the mobo is toast. Thank you in advance for any advice.

CPU Question

I have an AMD Phenom II X6 1045T with 2 sticks of 8GB DDR3 ram at 1600MHZ (corsair)
I also have a Xeon W3670 that i want to replace the 1045T.
I'm wondering if A. it's worth switching to that specific Intel CPU and B. if i'd have to switch out the ram as well (on the website it says it handles much slower speeds of DDR3, but the information isn't updated for 2014)

I use my desktop for Gaming, HD Movie viewing/Youtube watching, Massive Multi-tasking, Photo Editing and Video Editing.

I can pretty much do all of those things with my AMD, but i got the Intel CPU as a gift, so since it's theoretically better, I figure I should replace it.

New MoBo/PSU, seems like there is not power? Won't turn on!

I recently replaced my case, mother board, and psu. I purchased a Gigabyte Z77-DS3H MoBo and a Ultra 750w PSU. I replaced them because my old computer would power on and off continuously and then it doesn't power up at all.

Now, I have a rechargeable key board and it has always showed it was charging when the computer wouldn't power on. However, there are not LED lights coming on on the MoBo. I've moved around the RAM, removed the GPU, and even the CPU. Still nothing. I've tried jumping the power switch, nothing. Unplugged the hard drives, same issue. Even changed out the CMOS batt on both mobo's; same issue. I press the power button and NOTHING comes on or happens.

Any help or suggestions?

fastest CPU that will work in this board?.....

I have a working motherboard that was made by ASUS with Compaq HP's specifications. It is Compaq hp 462 socket board A7V8X-LA and the part number of the board is part number 5187-4913.It is from a Compaq HP Pavillion but I don't know what model Pavillion. It is a dinosaur, to be sure. I'm trying to find and purchase the fastest processor that will work with this board. 'Trouble is,
Compaq HP parts database search needs the COMPUTER model number first before it can tell me anything about the processor(s) or any other part that will work with this board. I asked them if they could do a search going backwards from the motherboard info to get the computer model number. She said that there are more than 200 Pavillions and Presarios that use this board.
It looks like their data base is not capable of cross-referencing and finding
a list of AMD 462socket processors that will work with a board that is installed in more than 200 of their computers! I explained that it was to be a custom
build from the board on up to no avail. I have already bought the correct memory (PC2700)for the board through info gotten elsewhere on tech support forum. Can anyone help me find the fastest and most powerful processor info
for this board? thanx for reading this post.....

PC boots up when PSU power switch is turned on

To the extent of my understanding, the issue is a premature power_ok signal.

This is a custom build with all new parts except for 4gb of ram and a dvd/cd drive.

I had this issue earlier, but was able to resolve it. I had everything working earlier today (installed windows 7 and some drivers), but when I went to diag why the water cooler wasnt working (unplugging/plugging power/fan connectors), I ran into the issue again.

I have about 7 standoff skrews installed out of a possible 9 (those last two are impossible to skrew in), so hopefully this isnt causing a short of some-sort.

Specs:
PSU - REVOLUTION85+ 920W
Motherboard - ASUS crosshair V formula Z
GPU - ASUS geForce gtx 780 OC
CPU - AMD FX 8-Core Black Edition FX-9590
RAM: GSkill RipJaws - 8gb + GSkill Trident X - 16GB
Cooler: Corsair H100I

Based on the fact that I was able to post and install windows, there shouldn't be any compatability issues with the mobo.

I've read several forums where people reported similar issues, but there was no clear consensus if it was the mobo or the PSU.
NOTE: I don't have spare mobos or psu's for diag.

EDIT: With some more fiddling, the power no longer remains on. Instead, it shuts off after a second of the PSU being powered on.

Hello guys,

Recently I bumped into this problem that my monitor started to give me a msg that said ''No Video Input'' this happened after my pc randomly shut down.

I thought the problem was with my motherboard and bought a new one but still the same problem, starts up, everything is spinning but no power is going to the keyboard/mouse & on my monitor it keeps saying No Video Input.

Also I just noticed my mobo doesn't beeps when I have no ram in it and there's no lamp that gets on.

With no Video input I also mean ''NO BIOS'' screen

-What I tried-
Switched PSU
Switched Ram/Diff Sockets
Switched Graphics Card
Use the MOBO graphics card
Test my 2 monitors on diff pc's (they work)

-Didn't tried yet-
Switching CPU
Switching Hard Drive
Switching ...?

Any suggestions what's going on/What could be the problem.

/Specs (What I know so far, will write more tomorrow when I wake up)
Mobo- msi b75MA-p45
PSU- Corsair 600W
CPU- I7 3770k
Graphics Card - gtx660 or gtx550ti or mobo graphics card

Want to upgrade CPU

Here is my configuration of pc.
Processor:Amd Sempron 3200+ 1.81GHz.
Display: NVIDIA Geforce6100nforce405
Motherboard:ZEB-N61M2
Ram:kingston 2GB DDR2
OS:Win XP SP3

My PC is working working fine...but since i have installed few game like NFS carbon. Some HD videos are not playing well. Before installing game it was working very excellent. I guess the CPU 1.81GHz is too low. Should i upgrade it to a faster one. But i did not get a specific answer which processor i can plug on motherboard ZEB-N61M2. I have researched a lot and have got following suggestions.....Please advise what would be the best option including the below list.
Processors i have found.....
1. Amd Athlon X2 2.7ghz
2. AMD athlon AM2 2.0GHz

Zebronics spokesperson has suggested to stick with 3200+ AM2 socket only....and avoid AM2+ and AM3 sockets...... please suggest the best CPU.

Hi, I am fixinsg my friends computer and I am great with software and can fix a blue screen but not hot with hardware. When you power up the machine you can hear the fans but nothing goes to the monitor. I tested the monitor and it is not that and it isn't the connections. I took the jacket off and the motherboard light is green. The fans are dusty but they are running. I have replaced hard drives on laptops but this is a little more challenging. I am close to just paying for geek squad but any suggestions would be great.

New CPU, No splashscreen!

Hey, i recently bought a new CPU for my computer, i will start off with telling you my specifications which is

Motherboard: M5A99X EVO R2.0
OLD CPU: Phenom II X2
NEW CPU: AMD FX 8350 8 Core
GPU: Powercolor 7970
Powersupply: 500W Coolermaster

So, i took out the old CPU, everything was working fine but when i put in the new one and started up the computer
the fans started spinning but i didn't get splashscreen, the screen was all black. So i updated Bios to the most
recent update but it still didn't work, I am left clueless. So the problem is my new CPU isn't working but when i put in the
Old one it works again, i tried putting in my friends AMD FX 8320, Even tho its pins is a bit bent it didn't work either.

I am very thankful for every response since i have no idea at all what the problem could be.

Best regards, whitesound.
