I have a AMD Athlon X 2400 dual core processor that I would like to save from a dead board that had a AMD A2+ socket. The new board(used) would be almost a copy of all the same features as far as memory, agp slot, etc.The only difference is that the new board's socket is a 462. I have read that there is a range of older AMD processors that can work in both sockets.
Can you tell me if this is true or not? The computer in question has two large hard drives and two R/W DVD drives and an agp slot with an ati 1gb card. So I am thinking of just switching out the mother board to save this XP machine.
What do you think of this idea? I would hate to trash it and then find out later that Microsoft wasn't serious about not supporting XP in the future. The used board I want to buy for this is at auction until 19 hours from now, so a timely
response will be greatly appreciated.
